The tool reports the resource manager has been corrupted. CAUSE Microsoft file Scbase.exe was executed. This file should not be executed under Windows 2000, Windows XP or better. RESOLUTION It is really important to restart the computer before doing the following. Trying to repair the MS Smart Card Base component in the same boot it was corrupted will worsen the problem. You can recover the smart card subsystem with the following commands on an administrator's console window: Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\scardssp.dll Scardsvr reinstall Doing so will repair the smart card service, but will also set its startup value to manual. To set the smart card service to automatic do the following: - Right click My Computer, select Manage from the menu. - From the Computer Management window, select Services and Applications - Right click Smart Card from the list of services. - Select Properties from the menu. - From the Smart Card Properties, General tab, set the Startup type to Automatic. - If the Service status is Stopped, click Start. NOTE: If you corrupted the smart card service under Windows XP, this solution will not work. You will have to restore system services using the Windows XP CD. Consult Windows XP documentation to know how to proceed.
